The best time of day for your photoshoot
If you are considering an outdoor photoshoot, what time of day should you book? It can make all the difference if you have young children too, as your photoshoot could depend on when they nap, eat, get up, go to bed and when they are the happiest. You may be wondering if you should time your photoshoot around your children’s schedule, or whether you should adjust your schedule to time the photoshoot to the best light.
So, ask me. If I had could pick the best time during the day, when would it be? Hands down, it’s golden hour.
GOLDEN HOUR
Photographers love golden hour. It’s that magical time of day when the sun is close to the horizon and is softer and warmer. I also love the moment just before the sun rises and just after the sun has dipped below the horizon. If you want photos in the landscape with the mountains and lake behind you this is the best time to choose. You get that beautiful light without the harsh shadows. Your skin looks softer. I can capture the moments of you interacting with your family or glowing with the tiny human growing inside you.
I understand that with children it may not be possible to keep them up and happy until sunset, or get them out of the door for sunrise. And your decision to keep the kids up until sunset can depend on the time of year and the time of sunset and whether that coincides with your children’s bed time. For this reason, spring and autumn is a great time to have a photoshoot with younger children. At this time sunrise and sunset times are not so early and not so late.
SUNRISE
My family kindly offered to model for a sunrise photoshoot to use in this blog. These photos are taken in one of my popular locations for a photoshoot. The best light happens before the sun rises above the mountains.
Sunset Photos
The light as the sun just drops below the mountains is equally as magicallly producing a stunning flattering light. This location is by Lake Wanaka. Again my family happily helped me.
Mid Morning
I often get asked to take photos mid morning for families with children. Mid morning light is different to sun rise and sun set. I have to work with the sunlight and position you with your back to the sun or if it’s partially cloudy looking into the sun. The sun does define the style of photos. Here are some photos for a photoshoot out in the open mid morning on a partially cloudy day.
Whenever you choose to have your photoshoot we will create some beautiful photos of you and your family.
